Rohit Sharma Joins Elite 11,000 Runs Club in ODI Cricket

India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, made history on Thursday, becoming the second fastest batter after Virat Kohli to reach 11,000 runs in One-Day Internationals (ODIs) during their Champions Trophy clash against Bangladesh.

With this achievement, Rohit joins an exclusive group, becoming only the fourth Indian and the 10th batter overall to cross the 11,000-run mark in the 50-over format. He reached the milestone in his 270th game, with only Kohli (222 innings) having achieved the feat faster than Rohit’s 261 innings.

In the company of legends, Rohit is now behind Sachin Tendulkar (276 innings), Ricky Ponting (286), and Sourav Ganguly (288) on the list of fastest to 11,000 runs.

Rohit’s impressive career now places him just behind Ganguly (11,363 runs) in the all-time ODI run-scorer’s list, while Tendulkar remains firmly in the top spot with 18,246 runs in 463 matches. Kohli, with 13,963 runs from 299 ODIs, is closing in on becoming the third player in history to reach 14,000 ODI runs.

The explosive opener, known for his prowess at the top of the order, also sits second in the list for the most sixes in ODIs, with 338 hits—just behind Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi (351 sixes). Rohit has maintained an impressive average of nearly 50, with 32 centuries and 52 half-centuries to his name.

Among India’s ODI run-scorers, Rohit is followed by other cricketing icons like Rahul Dravid (10,889 runs) and MS Dhoni (10,773 runs). India now boasts six batters in the esteemed list of 15 players who have crossed the coveted 10,000-run mark in ODI cricket.

As one of the most successful openers in ODI history, Rohit Sharma’s remarkable feat solidifies his place among cricketing greats, further cementing his legacy on the world stage.
