Five Senior MBBS Students Arrested in Ragging and Assault Case at Al-Ameen Medical College

In a disturbing incident, five senior MBBS students from Al-Ameen Medical College in Vijayapura, Karnataka, have been arrested for allegedly ragging and assaulting a second-year student from Kashmir. The accused—Mohammed Zainul (23), Sameer (24), Shaik Sawood (23), Mansoor Bhasha (24), and Muzzaffer alias Mujeeb Jamadar (23)—have been booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Karnataka Education Act, 1983.

The victim, identified as Bhat, was reportedly coerced by the accused into recording an apology video and threatened with serious consequences if he participated in cricket matches for the next four years. Following the student’s complaint, the Vijayapura Rural Police launched an investigation, leading to the arrest of the five accused on Wednesday. They are currently in police custody, with further legal action pending.

The incident has sparked outrage, with the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) strongly condemning the assault. JKSA National Convenor Nasir Khuehami described the incident as not merely a case of ragging but a severe issue of student safety and institutional negligence. He urged Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to take stringent action, calling for stronger anti-ragging measures to be enforced at the college and ensuring that the accused face severe legal consequences. Khuehami also demanded immediate intervention by both the Karnataka government and the college administration to protect the safety and well-being of non-local students.
