Jammu and Kashmir experienced fresh snowfall today across several higher reaches, including popular tourist resorts, while the plains were drenched by rain. This welcomed weather change marks the end of a prolonged dry spell, raising hopes of reducing the region’s significant rainfall deficit.
Jammu-Srinagar Highway Disrupted
Due to the fresh snowfall in the Banihal and Qazigund areas, authorities were forced to close the busy Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. The closure also led to the suspension of oil and gas tanker movement through the Jawahar Tunnel and Patnitop sections. As a result, a large number of vehicles have been stranded in various parts of the highway, including the Ramban, Nashri, and Chenani sectors, as well as in Qazigund and Anantnag.
Trikuta Hills Blanketed in Snow
The Trikuta Hills, home to the revered Mata Vaishno Devi shrine, received a fresh blanket of snow today. Due to the inclement weather, both the helicopter and battery car services to the shrine were temporarily suspended. Despite the snowfall and rain, pilgrims continued their on-foot journey, braving the weather to reach the holy shrine.
This fresh bout of snow and rain has breathed new life into the region, bringing relief to its residents and raising hopes for a better agricultural season ahead.
