MLAs Sunil Sharma and Shagun Parihar Review Development Initiatives in Kishtwar, Push for Tapping Industrial and Farming Sector Potential

In a bid to accelerate socio-economic development in the Kishtwar district, Sunil Kumar Sharma, Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Paddar-Nagseni and Leader of Opposition (LOP) in the Jammu & Kashmir Assembly, along with Shagun Parihar, MLA for Kishtwar, convened a high-level meeting with the district administration today at the Mini Secretariat.

The meeting aimed to review the progress of key developmental initiatives and explore avenues to further enhance growth in the district. It brought together a wide array of officials, including Deputy Commissioner (DC) Rajesh Kumar Shavan, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Javaid Iqbal, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Pawan Kotwal, and the heads of various line departments and sectoral officers.

Focus on Key Developmental and Welfare Initiatives

The legislators were briefed on the ongoing developmental projects across the Paddar-Nagseni and Kishtwar constituencies. District officers presented updates on various welfare and infrastructure initiatives that are being implemented to uplift the local communities and improve living standards. These include projects in the fields of education, healthcare, road connectivity, rural electrification, and water supply.

The meeting emphasized the importance of expediting these projects, particularly those that aim to boost the region’s socio-economic development. The legislators highlighted the need for timely implementation and better coordination between departments to ensure that the benefits reach the grassroots level.

Tapping Potential in Industrial and Farming Sectors

A key part of the discussion revolved around leveraging the untapped potential of the industrial and agricultural sectors in the district. Sunil Sharma emphasized the need to create a conducive environment for industrial growth, which would not only create jobs but also contribute significantly to the region’s economy.

Kishtwar has vast untapped potential in industries such as tourism, agro-processing, and natural resource-based industries. It is imperative that we provide the necessary infrastructure and policy support to attract investment and create job opportunities for the youth,” said Sharma.

Shagun Parihar echoed similar sentiments, stressing that the district’s farming sector, with its rich agricultural heritage, could greatly benefit from modern farming techniques and the establishment of agro-based industries. He proposed enhancing the agricultural value chain and facilitating the establishment of agro-processing units to boost the income of local farmers.

Both MLAs emphasized that integrating local produce into the national and international markets could have a transformative impact on the region’s economic outlook. They called for the introduction of targeted initiatives to improve crop yield, support organic farming, and develop cold storage and packaging facilities.

Collaborative Efforts for Inclusive Growth

During the meeting, the district officers assured the MLAs of their continued efforts to push forward with development schemes. The legislators also stressed the need for improving the region’s infrastructure, particularly in terms of road networks, education, healthcare facilities, and connectivity.

Both MLAs were particularly keen on ensuring that the developmental benefits reach all sections of society, including women, children, and marginalized communities. They encouraged the district administration to focus on inclusive growth, ensuring that no one is left behind in the region’s progress.

Looking Ahead

The meeting concluded with a commitment from all stakeholders to work towards the swift and effective implementation of development initiatives. The MLAs promised to continue their efforts in securing further government support for Kishtwar’s growth, with a particular focus on industries, agriculture, and rural development.

The push to tap into the industrial and farming potential of Kishtwar is expected to open up new avenues for economic growth and job creation. With both Sunil Sharma and Shagun Parihar championing the cause of inclusive development, the district is poised to see significant progress in the coming months.
